About the studio

One person, with help.

Tiny Forest Labs is a one-person studio. I’m Rob. I make every product call and I own every outcome, the good ones and the embarrassing ones.

I build with a lot of help from AI. Not as a gimmick, and not behind your back. It’s how a single person can research, design, write, and ship software that would normally take a team. I direct the work; the tools do a great deal of it. I’d rather be honest about that than hide it.

How a studio of one actually works

I split the work into roles (research, planning, engineering, design, writing) and run each one with a dedicated AI assistant I’ve set up for that job. They have opinions and they argue with me. I make the final call every time, and my name is on everything that ships.

Research

Checks the claims before they ship. Every number is labelled confirmed, estimated, or assumed, never dressed up as more certain than it is.

Planning

Keeps the work to one thing at a time. Decides what gets built next, and more usefully, what doesn't.

Engineering

Writes the code that ships. Correctness first, then simplicity, then speed. Nothing ships that can't be read cold six months later.

Design

Removes whatever can't justify itself. Asks not whether a thing works, but whether it's right, and holds the line until it is.

Writing & marketing

Finds the words, and makes sure the people who'd want these tools can actually find them.

One rule that doesn’t move

None of our products track you. No analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no third-party trackers. Not now, and not in anything we build later. AI helps us make the tools. It is never pointed at the people who use them.
